On Sunday, the much-anticipated Indian Premier League match scheduled between the Mumbai Indians and the Punjab Kings was moved from Dharmshala to Ahmedabad because of escalating security issues arising from heightened military tensions between India and Pakistan. According to local reports, both the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association and the Gujarat cricket authorities confirmed this change.
The fixture, initially set for Dharamsala’s scenic ground, became uncertain following the shutdown of the town’s airport due to escalating tensions nearby. Anil Patel, who leads the Gujarat Cricket Association, informed PTI that instead, the contest will take place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
Even with the shift of Sunday’s game, Thursday’s encounter between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the same Dharamsala location will still take place as scheduled. Officials have stated that the rest of the IPL fixtures currently remain unchanged, although preparations for potential adjustments continue due to the prevailing disturbances.
The unexpected logistical shifts follow Indian airstrikes on Pakistani soil after India accused Islamabad of backing a lethal assault on tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir. Pakistan refuted these claims and countered with its own actions, such as launching drones that have increased tensions across the region.
Military clashes near the Line of Control (LoC) persist, and multiple airports in northern India stay shut down, intensifying concerns about an expanded confrontation. Meanwhile, the current edition of the prestigious IPL cricket league—a key sports extravaganza—is finding itself caught up in the crossfire of escalating political strife that has captured international focus.
