Tottenham has one foot in the Europa League final as they head into the second leg of their semifinal against Bodo/Glimt, after securing a 3-1 victory in the first match last week.

The team from North London is experiencing a challenging season domestically but has had a remarkable run in Europe, placing them at the 16th position currently.

In 2014, UEFA modified the regulations of its competitions to provide direct entry into the next season’s Champions League for the winner of the Europa League.

Nevertheless, Wenger, who currently serves as FIFA’s director of global football development, thinks that this is an issue UEFA will have to “consider and revise,” according to him.

Postecoglou Claps Back at Wenger Over Man United’s Champions League Spot

“Well, what you’re referring to has been an ongoing discussion for quite some time, probably over the past eight days,” he stated.

I’ve never come across that statement until now, but as I mentioned earlier, mate, Tottenham Hotspur has some bizarre effects on individuals. Indeed, it truly does.

Whenever you bring up that topic in any conversation or situation, people always tend to downplay it as much as possible.

Why didn’t this become a problem earlier, but it is one now? What has changed? I can’t grasp the distinction.

‘Last year, finishing fifth wasn’t enough for the Champions League, but this year it is. What’s the significance of that?’

There are competition regulations stating that the victor advances to [the Champions League]. This isn’t new; these aren’t conditional rules requiring additional actions. However, this is Tottenham we’re talking about—they adore it. They truly cherish it. Don’t you agree? You enjoy it too, right?

When reminded that Wenger previously managed Tottenham’s arch-rivals in North London, Postecoglou replied: ‘I’d rather not delve into that path as I holdArsèneWenger in high regard.’

‘He’s one of the legends of the game, but it does crazy things to people, mate, I love it. I love it, bring it on. it’s going to upset people, so that makes me happy.’

Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Wenger claimed the winners of the Europa League should be rewarded with a return to the competition.

The former Arsenal boss said: ‘No – they should qualify automatically for the Europa League again but not necessarily for the Champions League.

‘Especially when you’re in the Premier League, where already five teams qualify.

‘I think it’s something [for UEFA] to think about and to review. On the other hand, people will tell you that to keep the Europa League focused, interesting and motivated you need to give them that prize [of qualifying for the Champions League].’

In the meantime, Tottenham will have to do without midfielder James Maddison when they travel to Bodo/Glimt, as he has sustained a season-ending knee injury.

Captain Son Heung-min hasn’t played in the past four matches due to a foot injury. Currently engaging in individual practice sessions, he remains uncertain for the journey to Norway.

Dominic Solanke, who was substituted during the match against Bodo/Glimt, did not participate in the game with West Ham but believes he will be ready for Thursday’s encounter.
