Sai Kishore Aims Top-2 Finish as Gujarat Titans Gear Up for Crucial IPL Push

New Delhi [India], May 9 (ANI): With regard to
Indian Premier League
The IPL reaches its concluding phase.
Gujarat Titans
(GT) spinner
R Sai Kishore
highlighted the significance of securing a spot within the top two of the leaderboard to obtain a tactical edge during the playoffs.

“A potential top-two finish has been under consideration for some time, not only recently,” Sai Kishore stated on Star Sports Press Room.

“When competing for qualification spots, it’s preferable to secure a position within the top two. There shouldn’t be any room for complacency. The IPL is a competition where each team stands strong. Every player involved ranks amongst the elite globally. It would be unwise to underestimate any squad, regardless of their current form — any athlete has the potential to turn the tide on their designated day. Hence, there isn’t space for relaxation. However, achieving a podium spot inside the first two places remains entirely feasible,” he concluded.

This season, the Titans have excelled, leading the standings with 16 points after securing victories in eight out of their eleven matches played so far and suffering defeats in just three. As they approach the final trio of fixtures in the regular phase, Gujarat aims to sustain their performance level and clinch one of the coveted top two spots, providing them an advantage during the postseason.

Securing one of the top two positions enables teams to enter Qualifier 1, with victory here securing their place in the finals. If they do not succeed in this qualifier, they will still have an opportunity to advance by winning Qualifier 2, which pits them against the victor from the Eliminator round.

The rest of Gujarat’s matches will be played against
Delhi Capitals
(DC), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) — each strong contenders in their own regard. As the playoffs intensify, the Titans plan to maintain their current form and enter the elimination rounds with peak confidence and every possible edge.

In GT’s final match against
Mumbai Indians
During the match, the Titans secured the toss and chose to field first. The innings saw an impressive 71-run partnership between Will Jacks (scoring 53 off 35 deliveries, including five boundaries and three maximums) and Suryakumar Yadav (contributing 35 runs from 24 balls, featuring five fours). Despite this collaboration, regular dismissals keptMI’s score in check, ultimately finishing at 155/8 after their allotted twenty overs.

Sai Kishore (2/34) stood out as the most effective bowler for GT, while Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Arshad Khan, Rashid Khan, and Gerald Coetzee claimed one wicket each.

The run-chase was like a thrilling rollercoaster for both sides. Although GT lost Sai Sudharsan early on, they managed to turn things around with a significant 72-run partnership between captain Shubman Gill (scoring 43 off 46 deliveries, including three boundaries and one maximum) and Jos Buttler (contributing 30 runs from 27 balls, also featuring three boundaries and a six).

During the 14th over, when Gujarat Titans were at 107/2, play was halted due to rain, placing them ahead according to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method. Following the interruption, Jasprit Bumrah (2/19) and Trent Boult (2/22) helped bring Mumbai Indians back into contention, reducing Gujarat Titans to 132/6 by the end of the 18th over before yet another rain delay began.

On this occasion, GT fell behind initially. Once play resumed, the adjusted target stood at 147 runs with an additional over remaining. Rahul Tewatia (11*) and Gerald Coetzee (12) individually sealed the victory for GT, securing a win via three wickets amidst nail-biting final moments. The accolade of ‘Player of the Match’ went to Gill. (ANI)
